Caption: Representative plaques for Mexican Merchant Marine ships lost in World War II
Additional Description: The Potrero del Llano and Faja de Oro were two Mexican oil tankers sunk by Nazi U-boats in the Gulf of Mexico. Their sinking in May 1942 with the loss of 23 members of the Merchant Marine led neutral Mexico to join the Allies and declare war on Germany in June 1942.
