Caption: Advance and Repositioning
Additional Description: Looking over the "Valley of Death" with the intersection of Crawford Avenue and Wheatfield Road in the distant center. After arriving, the 98th advanced into the valley, perhaps just to Plum Run, in support of the Pennsylvania Reserves (Third Division, Fifth Corps). Later the regiment rejoined the rest of their Brigade on the high ground to the right of the intersection. A monument there indicates the regiment's final position.
