Victory in the Pacific
Photographer: J. J. Prats
Taken: October 23, 2008
Caption: Victory in the Pacific
Additional Description: The text in the white scroll on the map quotes Admiral Chester W. Nimitz (1885–1966) at the official surrender of Japan in 1945. It reads, “names that are cross-section of Democracy —— They fought together as brothers-in-arms. They died together and now sleep side by side —— To them we have a solemn obligation to ensure that their sacrifice will help to make a better, a safer, world in which to live.”
