The 99th Pennsylvania Repositions to the Devil's Den | Additional Description: Looking north up the Valley of Death from the Devil's Den, with modern Crawford Avenue passing to the right. The 99th Pennsylvania was initially posted to the right flank of Ward's line, close to the intersection of modern Ayres and Sickles Avenues. As the threat to the Devil's Den developed, Ward ordered the 99th to move through the valley into position to reinforce the 4th Maine. Going into action, 99th wheeled across the foreground here and helped recapture the crest of the Devil's Den. However the success was short lived, and as the Confederate pressure grew, the 99th and the rest of Ward's Brigade were forced off the Devil's Den.
