The Bird's Nest | Additional Description: Near the top of the monument is a bronze bird's nest. According to a story told by soldiers, during the fighting a nest full of baby birds was noticed on the ground, upset by the firing. A solder of a regiment returned the nest and the birds to a nook in a nearby tree. Or so the story goes.
