62nd Pennsylvania Infantry Position
Photographer: Craig Swain
Taken: November 11, 2008
Caption: 62nd Pennsylvania Infantry Position
Additional Description: The monument faces away from the Avenue, toward the Rose Woods and the stone wall on the south edge of the Wheatfield. The left flank marker is on the right of this photo. The 62nd, like much of Switzer's Brigade, were posted on the Stony Hill (in the trees in the center and right background), where the loop runs today, when deployed at around 5:30 p.m. After General Barnes, the division commander, the brigade held a line north of the Wheatfield Road. Then around 6:30 the 62nd along with the rest of the Brigade was sent forward into the Wheatfield to support Caldwell's Division of Second Corps in the later phases of the fighting.
