Additional Description: Pioneers adapt boat building techniquesMadawaska pioneers who once lived near Atlantic bays brought French ship-building practices here with them. For example, a wooden ship's knee is a solid wood piece that grew at a right angle from a tree base or branch. Builders used these here in attics for strength.
Ship’s knees are used as wind braces here in the Albert House and can be seen at the Val Violette home at Acadian Village.

Les pionniers ont adapté les techniques de construction de bateau à leur maison.Originaires souvent de zones maritimes, les pionniers de la région devaient connaître la construction navale. À titre d'exemple, ces équerres faites de bois massif à partir d'une racine ou d'une branche à angle droit avec un tronc d'arbre qu'on utilisait pour renforcir le grenier.
Utilisées comme contreventement dans la maison Albert, on peut également voir ces équerres à bateau à la maison Violette du Village acadien. (Van Buren)
