Advance of the 27th Connecticut
Photographer: Craig Swain
Taken: November 11, 2008
Caption: Advance of the 27th Connecticut
Additional Description: Looking from in front of the monument to the southwest. The 27th, as part of Brooke's Brigade, advanced through the middle of the Wheatfield, in this view between the two vans. The advanced carried the 27th into the Rose Woods and across Rose Run, which runs along the trees in the distance. On the far side of the Run is a steep slope with a rocky ledge, where Brooke's Brigade formed a defensive line. The line held for about thirty minutes until, with ammunition exhausted, the troops staged a fighting retreat back through the Wheatfield.
