Born Oct. 6, 1842
Died Nov. 27, 1863
Age, 21 years, 1 month, and 21 days.
"He laid down his life for his country. A truer soldier, a purer patriot, a braver man never lived, who suffered death on the gibbet rather than betray his friends and his country."
Davis was hanged on November 27, 1863 and was buried first in Pulaski. Within days, he was moved by his brothers to a site across the creek from his family home. His grave was moved again to the family garden where this marble monument was erected in 1866.
This photo appeared in the Confederate Veteran 1898.
