Additional Description: Clara Driscoll worked as a protector of the Alamo throughout her life. In 1931, she again put up her own money to help the state purchase more property surrounding the shrine. In 1933, she backed down city engineers who wanted to use a portion of the site to widen Houston Street. In 1935, she talked the City of San Antonio out of putting a new fire station adjacent to the Alamo. As president of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas she oversaw the 1936 Centennial celebration of the shrine.
