Caption: Marker detail: Taking Care of People
Additional Description: Extending east and south across the desert, the C&C's rails crossed the Carson River near what is today the site of the Dayton Bridge at the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 E., Quilici Road, and Dayton Valley Road. Ranches near or on the river benefited when rail cars brought needed supplies closer, decreasing hauling time.
