Angle of the Federal Lines on East Cemetery Hill
Photographer: Craig Swain
Taken: February 21, 2009
Caption: Angle of the Federal Lines on East Cemetery Hill
Additional Description: Looking north from the flank markers. By morning of July 2, the Federal lines were set on Cemetery Hill, with the two Ohio regiments occupying an angle with one leg on the Brickyard Lane (modern Wainwright Avenue) and the other on a stone wall extending to the Baltimore Pike. The 25th and 75th held the angle, with the 107th Ohio to their left and 17th Connecticut to their right. Hays' Confederate Brigade advanced from what is today the High School athletic field and collapsed the angle. After bitter fighting the Hays' Louisiana troops were pushed back and the line re-established.
