Additional Description: Located in Mary Lou Retton Park in Fairmont, WV, 175 miles northeast of this historical marker, the West Virginia Miners Memorial shows each county that lost men in mining disasters across the state. Granite monoliths, one for each county, surround the statue of the “coal miner who lost his life in the mine.”
