Caption: The Hermitage Church
Additional Description: Jackson, influenced by his wife Rachel, donated the land, a considerable sum of money and the labor of his slaves to build this church in 1823. However, Jackson did not join it until after he left the White House in 1837, fulfilling a promise to Rachel to do so upon his retirement from politics.
