Caption: Marker detail: Timucuan Dugout Canoe
Additional Description: Fire-shaped and scraped from a pine log, this Timucuan dugout measures over 16 feet long. The keel was begun in same manner at left bow but was never completed. Dugout has a knot hole in center. Found in autumn of 1956. The canoe is currently displayed at the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve at Fort Caroline National Monument, located on the site of the ill-fated French Colony.
