Samuel Henry Lockett was a Confederate Engineer responsible for the defenses of Vicksburg. He later taught math and science at Louisiana State University and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He also served as an engineer in the Egyptian Army and was involved in the construction of the Statue of Liberty. - Tennessee State Library and Archives
