Caption: Grumman F6F Hellcat
Additional Description: WW II Navy and Marine Carrier based fighter plane. Used by Navy and Marine fighter pilots in WW II. The Grumman F6F replaced the Grumman F4F Wildcat in mid 1942. The F6F Hellcat was used at NAS Melbourne to train Navy and Marine fighter pilots who flew them in combat after their operational training. Donated by CDR W.R. Barnett USNR (ret)
