Caption: Monroe, Michigan: "Early years along the lake" Marker
Additional Description: Native Americans harvested wild rice from the marshes. With each blow of a "ricing stick"", one could harvest about a quarter of a pint. In two hours, the canoe would be a foot deep with rice.
