General Francis Marion | Additional Description: He earned his nickname as The Swamp Fox in November 1780, when his regiment evaded the British by escaping into a swamp following a seven-hour pursuit. "As for this damned old fox, the Devil himself could not catch him," said the pursuing British commander, Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton.
