To Our Fallen Sons
Photographer: Brandon D Cross
Taken: December 4, 2022
Caption: To Our Fallen Sons
Additional Description:
Who have shared one heart, one womb,
can never truly part
that touch I felt last night was you —
I knew it in my heart …

You’re everywhere I go my son,
you’re laughter’s in the air
Were you not in the house last night?
I heard you on the stair…

Your happiness in all things good,
comes back to me each day.
A little pup, a baseball game,
some children at their play,
a sandy beach, an ocean’s roar,
the tranquil azure skies,
these things now bid me pause to think,
and see them with your eyes …

Now I go down the years toward death,
with firm, unyielding stand,
I’ll know that where the path is dark,
you’ll reach and take my hand.

No sympathy will thrill my ears,
no music sweeter be
than when I see you waiting there
and calling “Mom” to me …
