Additional Description: He served as a surgeon on Gen. William “Bull” Nelson’s staff in eastern Kentucky in late 1861 as well as at Shiloh. After becoming ill after Shiloh, he was back home in Augusta to raise a new Union Kentucky infantry regiment.
