12-pdr Model 1857 Light Field Gun or "Napoleon"
Photographer: Craig Swain
Taken: March 16, 2009
Caption: 12-pdr Model 1857 Light Field Gun or "Napoleon"
Additional Description: These weapons were some of the best smoothbore artillery ever produced. Just entering service at the onset of the war, very few were used in the Western Theater at this phase of the war. Appropriately, only two such guns are on display at Shiloh. This piece was produced by Henry N. Hooper of Boston, Massachusetts in 1863. On its rather battered muzzle is the registry number 252.
