6-pdr Model 1861 Ames Field Gun | Additional Description: This 6-pdr was produced by Ames Manufacturing of Boston, Massachusetts in 1861. It conformed to the "new" Ordnance Department specifications for a smooth exterior shape (what we would later call streamlined) to reduce stress points. This gun has a muzzle mark for "GTB" initials of George Thatcher Balch. Another marking appears to be a "2" indicating the registry number.
