The scene of the Railroad wreck | Additional Description: The wreck at Thaxton, viewed from the southern side of the washout, is captured in a faded photograph from the Norfolk and Western Historical Photograph Collection. The train, carrying 56 passengers and 18 crew, plunged into the washout crossing, killing 18 people.
