Caption: 12-pdr Model 1835 Field Howitzer
Additional Description: This field howitzer was cast in 1837 by N.P. Ames of Massachusetts. Based on the markings on the breech, it is registry number 6, inspected by George Talcott, weighing 729 pounds. The Model 1835 was slightly smaller in exterior diameter than the later, and more widely produced, Model 1841. As result the early model weighed about 70 pounds less on average.
