Marker detail: Prairie in the 1600s versus today | Additional Description: All three kinds of the mid-continental grasslands, (tallgrass prairie, mixed-grass prairie, and shortgrass prairie), have shrunk drastically. In South Dakota 70 percent of the historic mixed-grass prairie has vanished.
