Augustus Leazar (1843-1905) | Additional Description: He served four consecutive terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives, his last as Speaker. Besides the creation of what is now North Carolina State University, his legislative accomplishments included getting railroads to stop using leased convict labor and losing their state property tax exemptions.
