Additional Description: This photo, taken facing to the northwest towards the corner of Michigan Avenue and Washington Street, shows the Chicago Cultural Center not long after it opened in 1897 as the city's first central library. The location of the present-day historical marker is, roughly, near the tip of the streetlamp in the foreground on the bottom right.
