Photographer: Craig Swain
Taken: March 16, 2009
Caption: James 3.80-inch Rifle, Type 3
Additional Description: Identified by historians as the Type 3 James Rifle, this piece was likely one of a batch of six experimental weapons. Unlike other James Rifles, this weapon was made from cast iron or steel, or possibly wrought iron. Uncommon for Civil War artillery, the gun uses a trunnion band around the gun tube.
