Der Blaue Reiter group lasted from 1911 through 1914, and consisted of Franz Marc, August Macke, Wassily Kandinsky, Lyonel Feininger, and several others. The group shared a common desire to express spiritual truths through their art, as mediated through the symbolic and spiritual associations of color, in an expressionistic or post-impressionistic manner.
