Caption: Terry Fox Marathon of Hope marker dedication plaque
Additional Description: Text: Terry Fox ran through Burlington as a part of his Marathon of Hope in July 1980. This granite monument tribute is the result of the work of a group of Burlington residents and local donors who came together to honour Terry Fox's legacy. The monument itself sits near Lakeshore Road, the route Fox took on July 13, 1980. The 'mile marker' symbol was chosen to celebrate Burlington as the 3,582 kilometre point in his incredible journey. Terry Fox wanted all Canadians to continue the fight against cancer without him. To this end, the Burlington Terry Fox Run is an annual event that goes through Spencer Smith Park along the Waterfront Trail every September. For more information, visit www.terryfox.org.
