In Placeritas Canyon, March 1842, Francisco Lopez y Arballo, while gathering wild onions from around an old oak, discovered gold particles clinging to the roots of the bulbs. It is estimated that $80,000 in gold was discovered as a result of this discovery.Erected by Department of Public Works - Division of Highways. (Marker Number 168.)

These two markers ("Pioneer Oil Refinery - 2 Miles" and "Oak of the Golden Dream - 3 Miles") were once located at the site of the "Beale's Cut Stagecoach Pass" marker
at 22580 Sierra Highway, Newhall CA 91321 (34° 20.528′ N, 118° 30.571′ W) but have now gone missing.
