1. General Griffith Rutherford Marker
Inscription. General Griffith Rutherford, surveyor, North Carolina legislator, commander of Revolutionary War forces of Western North Carolina, and President of the Legislative Council of the Southwest Territory from 1794 to statehood, lived 3 miles south of here from 1792 to his death in 1805. Counties in North Carolina and Tennessee are named for him. His unmarked grave is said to be in Shiloh Graveyard 300 yards north.
