1. Occupation of Gaylesville Marker

Inscription. Maj. Gen. W.T. Sherman commanding the Union Military Div. of the Mississippi at Summerville, GA., on Oct. 19, 1864 moved the Army of the Tennessee, the Army of the Ohio, and the Army of the Cumberland to Gaylesville. The Armies with attachments numbered approximately 60,000 troops.
