Durante el régimen del gobernador constitucional del estado, C. Lic. Jose Aguilar y Maya; siendo diputado por el distrito el C. Salvador Albarran y a iniciativa del H. Ayuntamiento presidido por el C. Manuel Cos Nuñez, la XLI Legislatura del estado expidió el 9 de noviembre de 1951 el Decreto Num. 97, que otorgo la categoría de ciudad a Uriangato, que en lengua tarasca significa “en donde el sol se pone levantado”

English translation:
During the period of José Aguilar y Maya as Constitutional Governor of the state, Salvador Albarran as District Deputy and at the initiative of the Honorable City Council chaired by Manuel Cos Nuñez, the 41st Legislature of the state issued on November 9, 1951 the Decree Number 97, which granted the category of city to Uriangato, which in the Tarascan language means "where the sun rises."
