Named in honor of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, U.S.N. Victor in the Battle of Lake Erie

Authorized April 16, 1906, by appropriation of The 77th General Assembly of Ohio.

National Matches held here for the first time in 1907.

Used by Federal Government as Concentration Camp during World War, 1917 - 1918

Dedicated July 1, 1936.
