Inscription. One of Toledo's oldest neighborhoods and originally in Michigan, Huron St. Village was considered as the site of the University of Michigan. After the outcome of the Michigan-Toledo War of 1835 the area was permanently established in Ohio and averted the proposed location of the university from here. The village eventually featured the city's first electric lights and housed essential components of Toledo's produce district, glass industry, canal and railroad networks as well as warehousing, many early businesses were owned by members of the Berday, Root and Secor families. The village is now listed on the National Registry of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior.
