Inscription.
I.O.O.F.. This brick building was completed in 1889 after an earlier building was destroyed by fire. This is the third home of the Somerset Lodge of the Independent Order of Oddfellows #438 originally established in 1851. The building exhibits many features of the Italianate style: tall, narrow arched windows crowned with rusticated stone and keystones, and continuous sandstone sill, a bank of incised brickwork, and a prominent, bracketed cornice. The first floor of this building originally housed the Somerset Post Office followed by a succession of retail stores. The storeroom has a pressed metal ceiling and the entrance is marked by a tile loggia. Another entrance at the south end of the building is identified with the I.O.O.E symbol in leaded stained glass. This entrance leads to the second floor and the lodge rooms.
