1. Colonel Forman.
Forman came to Dakota Territory in 1882 and bought land(Submitted on September 8, 2022, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)in Sargent County. He and his family and friends began to build in Center Township, which was renamed Forman. The load of lumber was used to build a general store, the Forman family home, and a number of other houses. Forman successfully sought the title of county seat for the town, and eventually built the Sargent County courthouse after donating the land. By statehood, in 1889, the town had several hotels, law offices, stores, a dentist, and even two newspapers. The railroad also came to town. Colonel Forman served in several roles as justice of the peace, town clerk and township supervisor.
2. COL Cornelius Hagerman Forman.
The township, the school district, and the Village all bear his name, since he was the owner of the original townsite. For 15 years he was justice of the peace, in which office, by the exercise of diplomacy, tact and sheer kindness of heart, he made friends of all with whom he came in contact; he had nevertheless a keen sense of justice, and his decisions met with universal approval. He was township supervisor for twelve years and of the village for ten years, and was for over twenty years school clerk.(Submitted on September 8, 2022, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
