Gov. Albert B. Chandler. Known as "Happy," this Henderson Co. native was state senator and lt. gov. before becoming governor in 1935 and 1955. U.S. senator, 1939-1945. As baseball commissioner, he approved Jackie Robinson's contract, making Robinson the first black player in major league baseball, 1947. Chandler elected to Baseball Hall of Fame, 1982. Over. .
