This marker is part of the 1854 trail route that split from the original 1852 route as a shorter and easier route for emigrants. The route continued south of this location and zigzagged across Hwy 97 (many original trail remnants are still visible) until merging with the 1852 trail route coming from the east at Marker Y-13.
