1. Birthplace of Tony Pizzo-Historian, Author, and Civic Leader Marker
Inscription. On September 22, 1912 Anthony P.(Tony) Pizzo was born in the family home on this block, neighboring the family livery stable, and eventually produce store, dating from the 1870's.

Tony's love of his community and his interest in history resulted in a lifelong research into Ybor City and Tampa history. Tony was instrumental in placing most of the historical markers which now stand in Ybor City and Tampa, through the Tampa Historical Society, which he founded. His work was chronicled in numerous artifacts, books, and a nine part television series.

He was active in the civic affairs of his beloved Tampa Town, which earned him the Outstanding Citizen of the year Award, the Liberty Bell Award and high decorations from the governments of Cuba and Italy.

Ybor City's beloved story teller served as Hillsborough County's official historian for many years prior to his death on January 2, 1994.

Erected 1995 by Tampa Historical Society and the The Tampa Tribune.
