Text on the Front Side, Middle, of the Monument:
Major James T. Holmes, Commanding,
moved from near Rossville with
the Brigade September 18th, 1863,
at 3:00 p.m., reached this position at
dark and bivouacked here for the
night. On the 19th, at 7:00 a.m. after
slight skirmishing, the Regiment
was ordered with the Brigade to
Rossville, and on the 20th moved to
the front with the Brigade and
took a position to the west of the
LaFayette Road, near the Cloud
House and engaged the enemy, remain-
ing there until withdrawn late in
the evening.

Location. 34° 55.928′ N, 85° 13.923′ W. Marker is near Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, in Catoosa County. Memorial is on Reed's Bridge Road west of Jays Mill Road, on the left when traveling west. This monument is located in the national park that preserves the site of the Chickamauga Battlefield. It is situated with a cluster of markers, located along a park roadway that runs between the Lafayette Road and Jay's Mill Road, a short distance northwest of the National Park's eastern boundary. According to the location information provided by the National Park Service, the, "Monument is located in the Chickamauga Battlefield northwest on Reed's Bridge Road at map site #18". Touch for map. According to the description information provided by the National Park Service, the monument is, "6'3" x 6'3" x 8'2", the monument has a rock-faced base, moulded pedestal, and coursed rock-faced shaft carrying a bronze insription tablet. Cap is smooth-faced, pyramidal, and has raised letter inscription."
