occupied this position, during the
heavy fighting Saturday afternoon,
September 19th, 1863, from 2 until
after 4 o'clock.
The casualties were: Commander
Lieutenant Albert Woodbury, mortally,
and Private Fordyce Averill,
slightly wounded.

Location. 34° 54.141′ N, 85° 15.634′ W. Marker is near Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, in Catoosa County. Memorial is on LaFayette Road south of Viniard Road, on the left when traveling south. This monument is located in the national park that preserves the site of the Chickamauga Battlefield, and is one of a number of Union monuments, markers, and tablets that are situated along the Union line of battle in the park's Viniard Field area. According to the location information provided by the National Park Service the, "Monument located within the Chickamauga Battlefield in East Viniard Field, map site #251". Touch for map. 2. 2nd Minnesota Light Artillery Battery Marker

More about this marker. According to the description information provided by the National Park Service, the monument is, "22' high and 7'6" square at the base, the monument has a 2-step base, a rectangular pedestal with stone cannon tubes at corners & a crenellated top, smooth shaft, pyramidal cap and a ball finial. Polished, inscribed panels form each side of pedestal."
I used the "Chickamauga Battlefield" map, that I purchased at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Visitor Center, to determine both the marker number for this monument and the monument's location in relation to the rest of the park's monuments, markers, and tablets.
