While moving rapidly by the flank from near Widow Glenn's toward the left of the army, the Brigade was struck on this ground by the advance of Hindman's Division from the Lafayette road. The Brigade faced the Confederates and in a sharp but brief fight which ensued lost nearly half its number. Its battery which had been ordered to report to Laiboldt's Brigade further to the left lost three of its guns, and the Brigade was forced back to the high ground west of the Crawfish Springs road and off the field. Casualties Sept 19th and 20th: killed 58; wounded 375; captured or missing 84; total 517.
