Église Ste-Anne Church

Une chapelle fut construite à la Pointe-à-Rocco en 1784. Elle fut utilisée par des Acadiens et des Mi'kmaq de la région jusqu'à ce qu'une église plus grande soit construite sur le site en 1808. À la suite d'un incendie dévastateur en 1900, l'église actuelle fut construite pendant la même année et la première messe fut célébrée la veille de Noël.
L'édifice de style romanesque en forme de croix a des plafonds en voûte peints à la main et des tableaux originaux en huile sur toile. Plusieurs objets uniques se trouvent dans l'église dont une chaire faite à la main qui peut être déplacée du sanctuaire jusqu'à la foule.
Chaque clocher a une cloche. La cloche de droite a sonné pendant huit heures en 1945 pour célébrer la fin de la guerre. La cloche s'est fendue et elle ne fut réparée qu'en 2001. Maintenant on l'utilise seulement pour des occasions spéciales.
La caractéristique la plus marquante de l'église est moins visible. Au retour de leur exil, l'église a donné aux Acadiens de l'espoir et un renouveau spirituel. Elle s'est placée au cœur de la communauté — une place qu'elle occupe encore aujourd'hui.

Back in 1784, a chapel was built at Rocco Point. It served the Acadian and Mi'kmaq of the region until 1808 when a larger church was built at this site. After a devastating fire in 1900, the present church was built in one year. The first Mass was celebrated that Christmas Eve.
The Romanesque edifice is built in the form of a cross and features hand-painted vaulted ceilings and original oil paintings. There are many unique objects, including a handmade pulpit that rolled on a track from the sanctuary to the front of the church.
Each steeple has a bell. The one on the right rang for eight hours in 1945 to celebrate the end of the war. As a result the bell cracked but was not repaired until 2001. Now, it is only used for special occasions.
The main feature of this church is less visible. After the exile and return of the Acadian people, the church provided hope and spiritual renewal. It became the heartbeat of the community—and remains so today.
