1. Sam Houston Schoolhouse Marker
Inscription. Three miles south is the school-house built in 1796 by Andrew Kennedy and Henry McCulloch for their children. Sam Houston taught here in 1811 or 1812. He later became Governor of Tennessee, Commander-in-Chief of the Texas Army, President of the Republic of Texas, Governor of Texas and U.S. Senator from Texas.

Location. 35° 46.912′ N, 83° 56.949′ W. Marker is in Maryville, Tennessee, in Blount County. Marker is at the intersection of East Broadway Avenue (Tennessee Route 33) and East Lincoln Road, on the left when traveling north on East Broadway Avenue. Touch for map.
