1. Ala Loa Marker
Inscription. You are walking along a segment of the ala loa (long path), a Hawaiian foot trail that linked settlement areas along the coast from Kealakekua to Kawaihae. This segment of the trail was also identified as a traditional route for the huaka'i pō, a nighttime procession of the spirits of deceased residents of the area.

As you walk, take care not to disturb stones along the path.

More about this marker. This marker is located on along a public access coastal path in front Four Season Resort Hualalai. The path may be accessed via an unnamed road located on the south side of the resort. Stop at the gate and ask for a pass and instructions to Kukio Beach.
