Inscription. This building was erected in 1845 by the Protestant Orphans Asylum Society, to care for children left homeless after the disastrous fires and yellow fever epidemics of the 1830s. It has operated continuously since that time.
 
Erected 1966 by the Historic Mobile Preservation Society.

In 2015 the building was leased to the Infant Mystics society (a Mardi Gras society founded in 1867) which began using it as a meeting lodge, renaming the place Cotton Hall.
