1. Pont des Cabignats Marker
Inscription.   Le pont des Cabignats a pris le nom déformé de la famille Escabignat, de riches bourgeois qui firent une donation pour l'aménagement du pont.

De chaque côté, on peut voir les maison de bois, anciennes tanneries avec leurs séchoirs avançant sur L'Indre.
La proximité de l'eau permettait de tremper les peaux qui étaient, après de nombreuses étapes, mises à sécher dans les greniers. L'industrie du cuir dans la région connut un essor important. En 1811, on dénombrait 18 tanneries à La châtre, soit la plus grande concentration de cette profession dans l'Indre. Elles ont fermé les unes après les autres à la fin du 19ème siècle tout comme les nombreux moulins implantés le long de l'Indre.

The Cabignats Bridge takes its name from the Escabignats, a wealthy, bourgeois family who made a donation for the construction of the bridge.

On each side, we can see the wooden houses, old tanneries with their driers, on the banks of the L'Indre River.
The proximity to water allowed for the soaking of the skins which were, after many stages, put to dry in the attics. The leather industry in the region grew significantly. In 1811, there were 18 tanneries in La Châtre, the largest concentration of this industry in the Indre (area). They closed one
